We've just returned from the 2024 British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) Congress in Liverpool. It was amazing to be back in Liverpool - one of my favourite cities, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The setting was beautiful, adjacent to the Albert Docks, with lovely runs along the banks of the Mersey at sunrise for those of us who were up early enough to see it! The atmosphere in Liverpool was, as ever, bustling and friendly - a perfect setting for the biggest equine veterinary event in the UK.
BEVA was a great opportunity for us to catch up with clients and introduce new people to our services. Myself and Rachel Murray were present on the stand along with members of our case management and client success teams. We all really enjoyed discussing service updates, interesting cases with delegates and how our team can alleviate some of the pain points in equine practice.
It was also brilliant to be able to tell prospective clients all about how our image reporting can make a difference in their day. There were lots of conversations around pre-purchase imaging and the stress this can cause. VET.CT offers a comprehensive pre-purchase imaging service, designed to take the stress out of your pre-purchase cases. Sharing our knowledge
Rachel and I were lucky enough to be invited to speak, with Rachel presenting the results of her ongoing work about horse-rider interactions and the intricacies of saddle design in jumping horses. This work is key to improving horse welfare and understanding the effects of tack and rider on keeping horses sound and in work. I was part of a novel workshop on 'Positioning for Success', discussing image quality and interpretation with small groups of delegates. This was a wonderful opportunity to interact with colleagues from a variety of practices and share tips and tricks for improving image quality and getting the most out of diagnostic imaging equipment.
My BEVA top three:
- The opening presentation by Olympic hurdles champion, Sally Gunnell
- The sessions on strengthening the social licence of competition, particularly the sessions discussing how imaging is helping to understand the risks and help prevent injury in real life situations, such as the Melbourne Spring Carnival screening programme
- Happy hour, which is always a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues and meet new people. The VET.CT stand was busy both evenings with existing and prospective clients calling in for a chat and to play our tricky ‘beat the buzz’ game!
A highlight in the event calendar
The BEVA congress is a highlight of the year for me! It’s a great chance to meet clients and colleagues and have valuable face to face conversations, alongside an excellent scientific programme and one of the best congress social calendars every year. Liverpool is known as a city that likes to have fun, and this was very evident at this congress.
Thanks to the BEVA organising committee for providing such a great environment for sharing ideas and information.
